Imperishable

I spent too much time hiding behind that wicked shadow of mine:
Feeding on my primeval airiness, depriving me of my confidence.
I went through utter seclusion and shattered friendships, that still send shivers down my spine.
Though they only stoked the fire within me, now imperishable;
They furnished me with film that guards over my frailties;
They handed me the hardiness I lacked to withstand faith’s triggers.
