All this time to myself
I learned something new
Our bodies are temples
Hence they are dear too

(I’ve been on quarantine since March 9 and since then, I’ve understood that our bodies are just as important as our minds. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always known they are equally important. However, I often disregarded my body, focusing only on my inner self. Fortunately, I think I’ve finally defeated most of my demons. Now, it’s time to improve other aspects of myself.)

The weight of a million fiends
On the shoulders of a tiny being
Tension runs through the body
And flows in miserable tears

I saw a shadow in the gloomy sky
Floating back and forth like a leech
Intently looking for a victim to suck on
A corpse doomed to end up beyond reach

Hustling against an intrepid entity
Opens doors to turbulent hysteria.
The awareness of being winnable
Could shatter patterns and fortitude.
But we must pilot bulks of mildness,
Endure this brute with optimism,
And scream from atop the roofs:
“We might have been bitten by your savage self,
But we will always end up victorious!”

And just like that, normalcy has been set aside
To battle a leviathan that cannot be taken lightly
Individual conscience must prevail upon egotism
Our world unified, not doused with racialism

Sail away, my little princess
Float away toward the skyline
Set a blind date with yourself
Get a taste of emancipation

Take a tempting leap of faith
Feel the earthquake in your grace
With an ocean at the core
Be fit to rise in admiration

It comes easy to love someone rather than yourself,
Effortless to bury them in gifts and petty surprises,
Simple to concoct endearments or prickly remarks,
Only to make them feel held in esteem and admired.

Challenges unfold when that someone is yourself,
And you vis-à-vis your unobtrusive imperfections,
Belittling every move or manifestation of character,
When above all it is yourself you have to look after.

There comes a time when change is binding,
The reason for the mind to broaden,
The reason for the skin to thicken.
Change is scary indeed, there’s no doubt,
But it’s an occurrence worth giving a chance to
For possibly greater circumstances to thrive.
